Owepar Records, as part of the Smoky Mountain DNA Legacy Series, announces the posthumous release of The Songwriter, The Singer by Floyd Parton, the late younger brother of Dolly Parton. Originally compiled specifically for members of his Owens/Parton family, today marks the first time this album by the multi-award-winning artist has been available to the public.

The Songwriter, The Singer showcases the breadth of Floyd’s musical talents, and why he was named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year in 1991 after his song “Rockin’ Years” became a #1 hit for his sister Dolly and Ricky Van Shelton. Floyd wrote or co-wrote 13 of the 14 tracks on The Songwriter, The Singer. His rendition of “Waltz Me To Heaven” was written by Dolly.
Floyd’s penchant for crafting timeless melodies and thoughtful lyrics made him a revered songwriter in the country music scene at the time. Beyond his gift for songwriting, Floyd Estel Parton was a renaissance man, as a poet, storyteller, skilled cook, outdoorsman, nature enthusiast, and even as an actor, appearing in the 1984 film Rhinestone, starring Dolly and Sylvester Stallone.
Dolly’s cousin Richie Owens, the multi-talented producer of Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA serves as producer of The Songwriter, The Singer and all Smoky Mountain DNA Masters Series reissues recordings.
The Songwriter, The Singer offers listeners an intimate and rare view of Floyd Parton as a recording artist featuring his own renditions of his original compositions. This collection honors one of country music’s unsung legends and now the public will get to experience it for the first time.
The Smoky Mountain DNA Legacy Series releases are available through the Smoky Mountain DNA Shop.
